Simply send them your digital photograph and they send you back edible icing! Lickety split! Your tasty photo icing arrives as sheets of sugar on paper backing, sealed in a plastic bag. You can slide it onto cakes, cookies, or cupcakes right away; or store it for up to 6 months. Instructions are included, and sizes range from 11×17 to 2.5” round so you have plenty of options. Photo cupcakes are our new favorite thing. Read on to see how we made ours… How to make your own photo cupcakes 1: Upload your PhotoFind a picture to put on your cupcakes. We used one of our friend Ella. Upload your picture using this form at Icing Images. (You’ll need to sign in first.) We picked 12 2.5″ circles for $15. If your picture doesn’t have a white background, trace out the subject in your favorite image editor before uploading it, or choose to have Icing Images cut it out for you for $4. Any white in your photograph will blend in nicely with the icing on your cupcakes. 2: Make CupcakesYour photo icing will take a few days to arrive, so this is a good time to research some cupcake recipes. Here’s Martha’s One-bowl Chocolate Cupcakes Recipe. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous (and we hope you are), try your hand at a Thai Iced Tea Cupcake or a Cherry Chocolate Cupcake with Fennel Cream Cheese Frosting. In general, you want to use white (or off-white) buttercream frosting. Store-bought works, too. 3: Frost Your Cupcakes
Apply a good dollop of frosting to each cupcake, and spread it as flat as possible on top so the photo icing will bond well. 4: Apply your Photo Icing
Let your cupcakes sit for a while and the photo and the frosting will meld into each other. 5: Enjoy!Ta da! Eat, give them to a friend, or just look at ‘em. We took ours out for a walk. […] Want to try something different than the usual cartoon character on your child’s next birthday cake? Looking for a way to surprise your sweetie on your anniversary? Like the taste of a homemade cake but can’t decorate worth a darn? Icing Images will take a digital photo that you upload and send you a sheet of edible sugar with your image on it. Simply press the sheet onto your frosting, and in a short while the image will transfer. You can chose a size to fit a sheet cake, a circular cake, or a dozen cupcakes. It costs $11-19, plus shipping, whicih to my mind falls into the “slight extravagance, but OK for special occasions” category. I haven’t tried them myself, though, so caveat emptor. (Thanks to Make for the tip. See Photojojo for detailed instructions and links to some cupcake ideas.) by D | posted in Fun, In the Kitchen […]

[…] On a completely unrelated note, Michelle Parise (thanks, meep!) sent me this very sweet (sorry) link today: Top 10 Creatively Decorated Nerdy Cakes. Those cakes are cool, but I’d certainly never try to make any of ‘em myself. Not like I’m the one who makes the cakes in this family, anyhow. But I don’t even think Em would try to make any of these. Now photo cupcakes, on the other hand… Well, I just cannot WAIT to make me some photo cupcakes. First of all, I like to think that even I can make cupcakes. Second of all, the mind literally REELS at the possibilities. And yes, I know that photo cakes have been around for some time, but these are photo CUPcakes. I mean, this is a whole new ballgame. Okay, I can’t explain why it’s a new ballgame - it just is. Humor me! Or not. But if you don’t humor me, then no cupcakes for you… And if you aren’t craving a cupcake by now, it can only mean that you still (how??) have not yet seen this awesome video (watch it quick, before the jerks at NBC shut it down - they had it pulled from YouTube ages ago, so this mirror’s days are surely numbered). […] My husband found this on the PhotoJoJo! blog and she was telling about this amazing technique on how you can have an edible photo disks for cupcakes or cakes. It is a very cool idea is someone is planning on throwing someone a birthday or maybe graduation party. The website is Icing Images: Edible Photos for Cakes. I think moms would love to have these for their children’s birthday parties! I think people want something new and different these days. As a matter of fact my birthday is this week (Thursday in case someone wants to Fedex me a gift) and I plan on getting a cake from a local bakery, I not sure what kind of cake that I want yet. Last year they did a birdhouse cake with Cardinals on it. It was very pretty. I hope when your birthday rolls around that your cake and party reflects you and your own personality. […]

Can anyone tell me where I should put the php line in my comments loop? I haven not modified anything much, and I would be very grateful. Thanks!
